The psychological ramifications of survival in a post-war world are devastating. After spending nearly a decade growing up almost entirely alone, much of her only interaction with other humans ending hostilely, Elle is highly averse to keeping anyone else around.However, when two others escape the group she was in, they all have the shared goal to help others do the same. Continuing to be pushed around Eastern and Northern Europe, Elle comes in contact with some of the best and worst of humanity, along with every shade in between. All the while, her health continues to spiral, the world taking countless different shapes around her.
