He is a winner of Guggenheim, Fulbright, NEA, NEH, Witter-Bynner and 5 Pushcart appearances, the Dane Zajc residency in Slovenia and the Order of Freedom medal from the President of Slovenia for humanitarian and literary work during the Balkan wars.
