Description

A large part of Goines' 39 years were spent being a pimp, a thief, a bootlegger, an armed robber and a small-time dope dealer. He lived the life of the streets and out of that experience he created Prince, the anti-hero of Black Gangster. It's the story of the shocking underworld of black organized crime and the fledgling black 'godfather' who goes from teenage ganglord to powerful Detroit mobster. Like the gangsters of the 1920s, he begins with bootlegging and branches out into every known crime.

Author Biography:

Donald Goines was born in Detroit, Michigan. He joined the U.S. Air Force instead of going into his family’s dry cleaning business. Following his service, he entered into a life of drug addiction and crime. He received seven prison sentences, serving a total of over six years. While he was in prison, Goines wrote his first two novels, Dopefiend: The Story of a Black Junkie and Whoreson: The Story of a Ghetto Pimp. Goines was shot to death in 1974.
