Eddie, Joey, Adam, & Roger along with some of their friends go to the Middle East to entertain the troops. They learn that sometimes a Marine escort isn't enough to guarantee safety. On Christmas morning we are getting ready to go to an area about sixty miles from here. We are assured that the area we are going to has been quiet for several weeks now and their intelligence tells them that there is no trouble in the foreseeable future in the area between here and there. The trip is as boring as usual until we get about ten miles from our objective. Our driver is another Marine named Will, we are not real big on military titles or rank. We are talking about the show we will be putting on this afternoon when Will has to stop because there is a truck blocking the road. Tony says something to Will then gets out to check over the situation. We are looking out the windows at Tony and just as we turn to see what the other cars in the caravan are doing we hear gunfire and Tony goes down. He's been hit and there's no telling how badly. There are other Marines in the other cars, but we just happen to be the front car today. The gunfire is hitting all the cars. We are riding in armor covered Humvees so we are safe, but Tony has been hit at least twice more. We can see his shirt jump when a bullet strikes it. Hopefully his flak jacket is stopping them, but we can't leave him out there. I grab a helmet and a weapon and jump out of the car on the opposite side of the firing. So far it has all been on the passenger side of the car and I was sitting behind the driver. Will yells for me to stay where I am, but I can't sit and watch anybody get killed, much less a friend. If Mindy finds out what I'm doing she will probably kill me, that is if I make it out of this situation alive. I am trying to get to Tony by slithering around the front of the car. I brace myself for a bullet when my feet hit the ground outside the vehicle but none come so our attackers must be all in that direction. I am near the front of the car getting ready to go around on my stomach when I hear the car door close behind me. Adam and Joey are sitting on the ground beside the car with weapons ready to push them over the side of the car and fire in the direction of the sniper or snipers.
