"Absolute must read"
5 stars"

An astounding book that leaves one feeling a little heart broken as the realities of life under the communist party of china are revealed through the thoughts of a young man bed ridden while in a deep coma. The transcending nature from childhood through to active participation in the Tienanmen Square riots succinctly displays the development of political fervor and disenchantment towards the harsh dictatorial power of the communist regime. Although a work of fiction it allows for some insight into one of the worlds most despicable Governments. 5 stars is the maximum rating however one would readily conclude this work is deserving of 10stars at least, Ma Jian is truly a writer with a purpose

Description

Dai Wei, a PhD student and protestor in Tiananmen Square in June 1989, was caught by a soldier's bullet and fell into a deep coma. But as the millennium draws near, he begins to emerge from unconsciousness, and to sense the massive changes in his country. At once a powerful allegory of a rising China, and a seminal story of the Tiananmen Square protests, Beijing Coma is Ma Jian's masterpiece.
