I couldn't put this book down, there are so many insights from powerful NZ women and men about how they have coped with balnacing work and home. It really gives you the full picture of choosing between the working mum role or the stay at home mum and the highs and lows of each. This book will help any women who is currently in the same situation I am where you are trying to decide which direction to go with the work/life balance as children come into the picture.

Description

Every day women make decisions about whether to be home full-time for their families or to go out - or set up at home - to work. For many couples, it is essential that both contribute to the household income, but for working mothers the situation is by no means ideal. With still-negligible help with childcare costs from the government, it can seem crazy to work when you are barely breaking even. But there is a strong argument for hanging in there and continuing your career after children or retraining and starting something new. Because We're Worth It openly discusses the challenges of being a working mother, giving the faint-at-heart some reinforcement when they need it most and the tools to make it better for all. Journalist Gill South retells the stories of a variety of contemporary working mothers - their triumphs and frustrations and good and bad days. She also looks at the role working mothers play in the community, and above all encourages women to celebrate what they do and to stop feeling guilty.
