Description

Barack: The release of Bernard Aquina Doctor's new pictorial biography of Barack Obama, entitled The Challenges and Achievements of America's First Black President is a graphic novel treatment of the life and rise to presidency of America's First Black President. Barack is one of several illustrated books by Bernard Aquina Doctor that gives readers of ages 12 through 35 an illustrated journey of the President's life and career. It is an objectively written, fully realized narration that reads like, "A pictorial history book", as reviewed by noted professor of linguistics and history Francisco Cardoso Gomes de Matos, who included a poetic Futurelog summation in the back of the book. The book, full of dynamic photo-realistic graphics matched with even handed narration of America's first Black president's two terms in office shows the challenges and issues his administration faced from day one and how he handled opposition to his policies and leadership with compassion and even-handed grace. In Barack, readers will learn how the processes and procedures that form America's system of government has staggered under the heavy weight of far right ideology and objection. Depicted is how special interest groups, ultra wealthy individuals and extremist media fueled a coordinated effort to oppose policies and legislation that the majority of Americans wanted, fought and died to achieve. Complied from five years of research, Aquina's Barack tells the story of America's first Black President in a sensitive and heartfelt portrayal that not only humanizes but overs a look into the struggles he faced as a child, growing up without a father in his formative years until his mother remarried. Beautifully illustrated and respectfully narrated, Barack is an informative, joyful read for young readers and scholars as well as graphic novel enthusiasts. Bernard Aquina Doctor is a writer and artist living in New York City and the author and illustrator of the 192 page Malcolm X For Beginners, also available through Amazon.com. Malcolm X For Beginners was first published by Writers & Readers, Glenn Thomson, a small boutique publisher who inspired, encouraged and promoted the works of unpublished, creative writers and artists out his small offices in Harlem and later Tribecca New York until his passing in 2001. After Glenn Thomson, Writers & Reader's brand was acquired and reprinted by Random House and later Steerforth Press. A limited Korean language version of Malcolm X For Beginners was published in 2007 and copies of the first second and third edition printings can be bought on Barnes & Noble, Amazon and several online print on demand and books in stock distributors. After a 16 year hiatus on staff as computer technology and software manager at a private school and then founder and manager of his therapy service facility, AQTAPLLC in New York, Bernard is again hard at work on books.Editing a three part fiction novel, a coming of age story of two young hero's with little in common who face incredible odds to lead a community of disparate survivors faced with struggles to rebuild life after a devastating event. The Trilogy, fifteen years in the making, is a dramatic, entertaining and inspirational departure from the previous works of Bernard Aquina that will be available soon.
