The extraordinary story of a woman, born into an impoverished low-caste (untouchable) family, married off at the age 11 to a man 20 years her senior. He treats her brutally, she runs away, but her family cannot help, as they cannot repay the dowry. She joins a group of bandits who live in the hills, and survives by stealing. The only woman among hardened outlaws, the film is extremely powerful and thought provoking.

Follows the extraordinary life of Indian Bandit Queen, Phoolan Devi. After being imprisoned for 11 years, she was released in 1994, and sadly, murdered in August 2001.
