Description

Introducing "B-Sides and Outtakes" - the latest addition to the renowned "Hello My Name is" series, pocket-sized documentary art books that unveil the world of graffiti and street artists. This captivating art book offers an intimate exploration into the life and work of Rough, known to the world as Remi Rough. As a pioneer in graffiti and urban art, Remi Rough has carved a unique path at the forefront of minimalism, blazing a trail that resonates with a 'street-wise' energy and tension, derived from his early experiences as a young graffiti writer, painting walls and trains across the world. Those familiar with the intricate interplay of geometry, line, and color seen in late-80's 'wildstyle' graffiti will discover deconstructed visual clues to his artistic schooling. Remi's instinctive use of color and geometric form can often result in a graphic notation for some unseen urban symphony, reminiscent of the visual scores of artists like Hans-Christoph Steiner. It may come as no surprise then, that Remi is also an accomplished music producer. The effect is best experienced when witnessing one of his vast murals, where geography, geometry, and architecture align to immerse you fully in the multi-dimensional mind of the artist. With site-specific projects such as the Ghost Village in Scotland, Morning Dynamics at Art Basel in Hong Kong, and numerous publications, Remi Rough is building a legacy that, as with all great innovators, may only be truly appreciated with the passage of time. His art is a fusion of the contemporary and the historic, reflecting his journey from graffiti pioneer to internationally acclaimed artist. This book, "B-Sides and Outtakes," encapsulates Remi Rough's artistic journey, from his early graffiti writing to his current iconic abstract compositions. It serves as a bridge between the past and the present, offering profound insights into the evolution of his artistic genius. Dive into the multi-dimensional mind of the artist, experience the tension between energy and abstraction, and celebrate the enduring legacy of Remi Rough in the ever-evolving world of urban art. This is not just a book; it's a visual and emotional journey into the mind of a pioneering luminary in the graffiti and street art world.

Author Biography:

Remi Rough, an acclaimed street artist from the 1980s, transitioned to gallery art, where his abstract compositions, marked by vibrant shapes and clean lines, have earned global recognition. His work has graced exhibitions in Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, Paris, and Tokyo. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the Dulwich Outdoor Gallery in southeast London, producing a mural inspired by Rembrandt's "Girl at a Window." In 2008, he spoke at Tate Modern in London in association with a Street Art exhibition, and in 2009, he authored "Lost Colours and Alibis," solidifying his artistic legacy.
