On 16th June 1995, he had released the double album HIStory: Past, Present And Future, Book I, one of his most ambitious projects to date. The first disc, HIStory Begins, was a greatest hits collection with cuts stretching back to the Off The Wall era, while the second disc, HIStory Continues, contained 13 new originals alongside a pair of covers.
HIStory sold more than 20 million copies worldwide – the highest selling multidisc album of all time – and was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards.
On 7th September 1996, Jackson embarked on the HIStory World Tour, performing 82 concerts worldwide over 13 months and attracting 4.5 million fans in total, the highest audience attendance he ever achieved. Blood On The Dance Floor: HIStory In The Mix, released on the 20th May 1997, became the most successful remix album of all time, selling over six million copies.
The recording included on this CD is taken from Michael Jackson’s performance at the Ericsson Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand on 11th November 1996, and highlights the sheer scale and magnificence of the tour.
Broadcast live on FM Radio in superb audio quality, Jackson mixes newer hits such as ‘Scream’ and ‘Earth Song’ with older classics including ‘Thriller’, ‘Beat It’ and ‘Billie Jean’ – and even performs a couple of early 1970s Jackson 5 numbers too.
