To ensure a smooth integration of such machines and devices, the system needs to be precisely architected in such a way, keeping in mind the domain, scalability, nature of devices, connectivity, etc. This book is aimed at architects who want to achieve just that. It will begin by giving them a bird's eye view of what the IIOT is, and how it evolved from the industrial revolution. Then we will introduce a few aspects of our architectural approach and illustrate how they feed on each other, after which we will look at gathering business requirements and the significance of doing this early and often. Then, we will map the gathered business requirements to a functional architecture and discuss the viability and feasibility of adopting Industrial Internet Applications. We will then cover the key components in a data and analytics architecture, and moving on from there, we'll get into choosing where to deploy Industrial Internet solutions and management considerations. After this, we will get into security and discuss securing devices, network, and back-end infrastructure. Governance and industry compliance will be covered next, and after this, we will move to the final part of the book, where we'll discuss the varied use-cases of IIOT in various industries. We will end the book by taking a glance at the future and discussing where the Industrial Internet could be headed and the impact it will make. Through the course of this book, the reader will be taken on a multi-disciplinary journey that combines the operational and the enterprise view.
