My review of Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion #piratesoftheenchiridion
This new addition to the franchise released on the 20th of July for all major platforms including Switch. It's priced at a standard price of new release games (AUD $69-$79.95) but is unfortunately half cooked and short lived.
The story and characters are well portrayed following the cartoon canon offering voice acting from the original cast and plenty of unique side audio like sea shanties sang by Finn and Jake, yet with all praise I can give it it's a very big missed opportunity to give the fans a full game that works the franchise deserved. PoTE promised an open world game that was sorely oversold.
The game had roughly a handful of side missions that offered no real skill to accomplish. The story was roughly 10–15 hours of play and the game was so infested with bugs it was difficult to continue.
Every activity insisted on a load screen which needed an average of 10 seconds to load (count ten mississippi's, it's long) Some fights were so bugged, the game wouldn't acknowledge you'd won and would refuse to load any further which forced you to close the program and return 10min earlier in your game progress to now redo over any of your game activity and hope that same fight wouldn't bug out again. Loading into some areas would crash the game completely, seriously.
The battle system was fun. It was clear more creativity went into Jake the dog and BMO's skills. I honestly felt Finn and Marceline were lacking in variety. BMO only joins you for the last few hours of the game. This was a dumb idea as BMO had two abilities that were useful and made little sense on using so late in the already short story. BMO could scan the enemies in a fight and show you their weaknesses and other info.
This is a $30 game at best Too many flaws to be worth a higher score, Outright games outright blew it. I give it 2 out of 5 ⭐⭐---️---️---️
