Since its inception a wide range of projects have been conducted. This book offers readers an overview of global developments led by the Network on advanced practice in addition to findings related to education, research, health policy and clinical practice.  This volume recognises the benefits and challenges associated with the development of advanced practice nursing globally. It begins with an overview of the Network before discussing some of the global challenges. The second section of the book presents a variety of the Network's projects and evidence informed data on APN role. This book presents the global context of advanced practice in a variety of settings; As such it is relevant for APNs, students, health policy makers, educators and researchers.

Author Biography:

Professor Melanie Rogers is a National Teaching Fellow for Advanced Practice at the University of Huddersfield in the UK. She is also an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care as well as the Director of the ICN NP/APNN Academy of Research and Enterprise. She is a Queens Nurse having been awarded this title for her work in practice and education. Prof Rogers is passionate about advanced practice as a way of providing the care needed at the point of need for patients. She has multiple publications on aspects of advanced practice  Dr Daniela Lehwaldt is Academic Lead in Nursing in the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health at Dublin City University, Ireland. As Academic Lead in Nursing, she works with staff within the Nursing Group, the Head of School and the School Executive, to prepare and implement a strategic vision and to develop the academic discipline(s), including education, research, and professional practice. Her role also includes contributing to the leadership and management/administration of the School and leadership activities at Faculty and University level.Dr Lehwaldt is the Chair of the MSc Nursing/Health Care Practice, which prepares nurses for specialist and advanced nursing roles. She has contributed to various advanced nursing projects and publications, and she is the Deputy-Chair of the International Council of Nurses Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Network. She is internationally well connected and she serves on a number of committees including the German Network for Advanced Practice Nurses (DNAPN) and the Irish Association for Advanced Nurse and Midwife Practitioners (IAANMP). Dr Lehwaldt is the Chair of the ICN NP/APNN. She takes on this leadership role following years of work and dedication within the Network and responsibilities and roles as Secretary and Deputy-Chair prior to her current role.   Josette Roussel is currently working as a Director of Clinical Services in a Francophone Academic Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In this capacity she is leading a multidisciplinary team to enable the delivery of modern diagnostic imaging services, pharmacy services, laboratory and cardiopulmonary services. Josette has been contributing to the development of health policies and advancement of the nursing profession and Advanced Practice Nursing in Canada and globally for more than a decade while working at the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA).  Josette has published in peer-reviewed journals and books. She has presented and contributed to numerous task forces and committees at the provincial, national and international levels. She is also an invited lecturer at the master’s in nursing program at the University of Ottawa, where she holds a master’s in education. She also holds a master’s in nursing, specializing in gerontology, from the Université du Québec en Outaouais. She has completed CNA’s gerontology certification program and the Advancing Health Leadership program from Royal Roads University in British Columbia, Canada. Josette is the Deputy-Chair of the Core Steering Committee of the International Council of Nurses Nurse Practitioner (NP) Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) Network and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Nursing and remains an active member of the Canadian Nurses Association.  Dr Michelle Acorn’s academic career has evolved from diploma to post-doctoral education. Michelle completed her Doctor of Nurse Practitioner/Nursing Practice. She is dually certified as both a Primary Health Care and Adult Nurse Practitioner. Michelle holds national nursing certifications in Emergency and Gerontology and an international certification as a Global Nurse Consultant. She was inducted as an inaugural Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Nursing and was also inducted into the American Academy of Nursing. Dr Acorn transitioned to executive leadership modernizing the Provincial Chief Nursing Officer role in Ontario, Canada in 2018. Her scholarship and knowledge translation are in textbooks, peer-reviewed articles, and evidence informed toolkits. She is recognized for her leadership, mentorship, preceptorship, and teaching. Dr Acorn was appointed as the inaugural Chief Nurse of the International Council of Nurses in 2021, a federation representing more than 130 national nursing associations and over 28 million nurses worldwide.
