Author Biography:

Richard W. Thompson, whose letters formed the basis of this document, is listed as the author. In fact, he authored part of it during the War, and the rest was put together to give perspective. He was born in 1921, grew up on the Thompson family farm in Thornhope, Indiana, attended school at Thornhope and later at Star City, married and raised his family on the farm homesteaded by his mother's family, and died in 1994, the victim of a farming accident. He was much loved and respected by his family and by the community.
