Description

Philip Glass is an American composer considered one of the most influential of the late 20th century. He formed The Philip Glass Ensemble in 1968 to serve as a performance outlet for his experimental minimalist music & their instrumentation grew to become a hallmark of Glass’ early minimalist style.

Orange Mountain Music presents a stunning & exhaustive 2CD set of repertoire from The Philip Glass Ensemble’s 40yr career with A Retrospective, taken from a live recording made in Monterrey, Mexico in 2006. A Retrospective features music from Music In 12 Parts, In The Upper Room, Koyaanisqatsi, Einstein On The Beach, The Photographer, Glassworks & much more in its 100+ minutes of music.

While the Ensemble’s exact instrumentation has varied over the years, the endearing image of the group with an array of amplified woodwinds, keyboards & synths, has become the iconic visual image for Glass the performer. The Ensemble continues to tour the world & record, under the musical direction of Michael Riesman.
