Philip Glass is an American composer considered one of the most influential of the late 20th century. He formed The Philip Glass Ensemble in 1968 to serve as a performance outlet for his experimental minimalist music & their instrumentation grew to become a hallmark of Glass’ early minimalist style.

While the Ensemble’s exact instrumentation has varied over the years, the endearing image of the group with an array of amplified woodwinds, keyboards & synths, has become the iconic visual image for Glass the performer.
