Description

This anthology of selected writings of the late Rabbi Marc H. Tanenbaum underscores his major contributions in the areas of civil and human rights, international affairs and - above all - the development of Jewish-Christian understanding and mutual respect. Special features of this work include a biographical essay, tracing Tanenbaum's personal and professional development from humble beginnings to world wide recognition as a leader and thinker; introductions to the major issues he confronted in each of the decades covered by his writings; helpful introductions to the essays themselves; a moving epilogue, and expressions of tribute from major religious figures of our time. Reading through these essays and editorial commentaries constitutes a short course in the major religious and interreligious issues of the late twentieth century. The volume's co-editors, distinguished authors themselves, worked with Tanenbaum over many years and offer personal insights and reflections that help place his work in proper perspective.
