Description

This brief text details the key components to successfully launching and growing a not-for-profit organization focused on mentoring at-risk youth in a strength-training environment. The text is organized to guide readers through the most basic phases of not-for-profit start-up in this niche sector in hopes of streamlining the development process for reader's own organizations.

Author Biography:

Willem C. Kiefer is the not-for-profit Founder/Executive Director at Bench Mark Program in Lancaster PA. Born and reared in Gettysburg, PA, Kiefer moved to Lancaster in 2010 to attend Franklin and Marshall College. Before graduating with a double major in Public Health and Spanish in 2014, he founded the organization in order to fill a need in his surrounding community. Without any prior business experience, he began the most powerful type of on-the-job training at the helm of his budding organization. Three years later, the organization has grown into an effective mentoring resource for older, at-risk teenagers in Lancaster, PA while Kiefer works on plans to formalize the Bench Mark Program model and expand it to other cities in the surrounding area. Will is happily married to Karla Kiefer, after they met at F&M college in 2013, and enjoys living in Lancaster City within walking distance of both of the organization's gym facilities. In his free time, Will is an avid reader of self-development texts, investment texts, and biographies of influential individuals. Will and Karla often spend weekends in Gettysburg, PA with Will's family, and enjoy trips to Bethany Beach every summer. Will is the first to admit that this text was created at the beginning of his entrepreneurial career, and there will no doubt be further, more in-depth texts published in the future. Will is just a beginner, with many more years of exciting development ahead of him, hoping that this text serves to document the first stage of his journey and be useful to others who are working on similar initiatives.
