Originally published under the title "En Province in 1883-1884" as a serial in The Atlantic Monthly, the book recounts a six-week tour Henry James made of many provincial towns in France, including Tours, Bourges, Nantes, Toulouse, Arles and several others. The first book publication was in 1884.

Author Biography:

Henry James (born April 15, 1843, died February 28, 1916). He was an American writer who spent most of his writing career in Britain. He is regarded as one of the key figures of 19th-century literary realism. He was the son of Henry James and the brother of philosopher and psychologist William James and diarist Alice James. He died in Chelsea, London. His ashes were buried in Cambridge cemetery in Massachusetts.
