His books include TheCambridge History of American Poetry (co-edited with Stephen Burt,2014), A Companion to the American Short Story (co-edited withJames Nagel, Wiley Blackwell, 2010), The CambridgeCompanion to American Travel Writing (co-edited with JudithHamera, 2009), Edith Wharton: New Critical Essays (co-editedwith Annette Zilversmit, 1992), The Amber Gods and Other Storiesby Harriet Prescott Spofford (1989), an edition of thecomposite novel The Whole Family (1986), and HauntedWomen (1985).
