The author is an Emeritus Professor of Veterinary Surgery. His background is extensive training at the Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, service in the Army Veterinary Corps in World War Two, chief surgeon at the Rowley Memorial Animal Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts, Chief of Surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City and Professor of Veterinary Surgery at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis.
