Terry D. Bilhartz is a professor of history at Sam Houston State University who has taught about 18,000 students during his career. He is the author of more than 50 articles and book chapters in the fields of history, religion, philosophy, psychology, and medicine, and has written scripts for public television documentaries. He is the author of Urban Religion and the Second Great Awakening, Francis Asbury's America, Images of Texas in the Nation (with Paul Ruffin), Constructing the American Past (with Elliot Gorn and Randy Roberts), Sacred Words: A Source Book on the Great Religions of the World, and Currents in American History (with Alan Elliott). Bilhartz holds degrees from Dallas Baptist College (BS), Emory University (MA), and the George Washington University (PhD), and has completed post-doctoral studies in history and religion at Vanderbilt University, Stanford University, the University of Connecticut, the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii, and the Australian National University. Alan C. Elliott is the Director of Statistical Consulting in the Department of Statistical Science at Southern Methodist University. He is the author of numerous academic articles and over 30 books on topics including science, history, and biography. Current books include A Daily Dose of the American Dream; Texas Ingenuity: Inventions, Inventors & Innovators; Legendary Locals of Oak Cliff; Images of America: Oak Cliff; and Currents in American History (with Terry Bilhartz.) Technical books include SAS Essentials, Statistical Analysis Quick Reference Guidebook, and Applied Time Series Analysis. He specializes in writing techniques designed to make challenging subjects easy to understand.
