Xbox 360 Complete System previews

Personally i couldn't care less which company wins the next-gen wars. I am a gamer, not a fanboy, so i will be getting all 3 next-gen machines. Speaking of fanboys, I just wonder how many of those idiots really understand the specs that they are spouting? For that matter don't they realize that it's not the specs that make a machine, but the games themselves? IMHO the Xbox 360 has the best line-up of “debut” games of any console in a long time. Note that i said debut (first release), not launch (there are multiple launches in different regions,that can be seperated in time by over 6 months – a lot of extra development time to spruce things up). If you think that the Xbox 360 debut games aren't good or next gen enough, then let me remind you of the games that were available when the PS2 debut in Japan in March 2000 – Ridge Racer V, Streetfighter EX3, Kessen and Drum Mania. Far from earth-shattering don't you think? So ignore the BS being posted by fanboy idiots. If you are a serious gamer and have the cash available, then the Xbox360 is definitely a worthwhile purchase (along with GRAW, PGR3 and RR6 :D).

why is everyone arguing about the ps3 on and XBOX 360 REVIEW page,this is about the 360 not about comparing the consoles and saying ones beter than the other,thats what forums are for people.How can all these people talk about how much beter the ps3 IS,when it doent actually exist and when theres absoulutely NO information released about the specs or about the console(except a few pictures of the console and controller) what so ever.the ps3 will have it good points and bad points as with the 360,and each console will have its own points that are beter than the other,so why not leave the arguing for the forums

i personally think the 360 is totally awsum and is well worth geting,the ps3 will also be an awsum experiance to and im thinking about geting it, but when the price drops a bit,im not with or against microsoft and sony theyre both very good companys and each have there own very good ideas as to what a next gen console should be like and what features the console should have.

People have too higher expectations, so a lot of people complaining the games are not “next gen”, I think this should be ignored, next gen, is whatever is brought out next, and whatever can run on it but not on the previous generation (which includes ported games that have had their graphics spiced up a bit). It doesn't have to be omg so outstanding, look every item can be shot/smashed/moved, look I can now see almost every crack/drop of water, omg the stories/story telling are so complex and great. No, thats not how it has to be, its next gen. Its next gen.

Below “reviews” about the xbox360 are more arguements and talk of PS3 etc.

Come on, this is supposed to be a xbox360 review, not a “I'm a playstation fanboy and am going to fill the reviews here with crap about why ps3 will be better or worse” This isn't supposed to be a page on dispute, its supposed to be a review about the 360. Why the 360 is good, or why its bad. Not why you should get a playstation 3 when they come out nearer or early 2007.

I realise my contradiction here, that I'm going to address some things that they have said anyway.

Talk of “blue ray true next gen” whatever, you dont need new discs for next gen, next gen is simply next gen. Thats it, next generation, xbox360 is the next generation of xbox, therefore its next gen.

In the end, the most important thing, is that you like the games that come out for the console!!!

I give 4 starts because, the system looks absolutly awesome, but it does have its drawbacks. It is not completly flawless.

All I can say is 700$ is a cheap price to pay for the console that has the one in only OBLIVION!!!!!!!!! I cant wiat !!! Im buying the new xbox specifically for that reason. Oh and halo 3, but mainly for Oblivion.

The only good game i can think of that ps3 will have is final fantasy.

You obviously know nothing about programming which is why you wont understand why the PS3 specs arnt that great, and why for 80% of the games will go unused. Blu-Ray is nothing special, and it has NOTHING to do with the late release of PS3. If Nintendo can pull off their controller, it will be the next TRUE gen console.

HD-DVD is ready, MS doesn't want to add it into the console because it will increase the price, MS already stated this.

People, come on. Why are we even bothered with what ps3 can offer and yet there is all this talk about the difference between the 2. Consider the actual distinction of the fact they are completly different consoles, made by completly different companies!!! its like talking about the difference between a motorbike and a car. Please. Xbox 360 is and does have the edge in the market as it was released first. in terms of next gen, this is just like every other computer revolution ever released. first awesome!!! why argue the difference between when it doesnt matter because 5 years down the track, well say hello to xbox4. in either case with what xbox 360 offers is better than anything we have seen in the market before. therfore a must buy for all hardcore gamers!!

Can the new xbox play the old xbox games?

I currently reside in the UK and i was lucky enough to get my hands on an Xbox 360 straight after the launch. I have played many of the titles available both on and offline, and it is definately worth getting.

I love how many people have been comparing it to the Ps3 and saying it doesnt compare on specs, I think the main comparison is that the release date for the ps3 was originally march 06 now its just 06, more like xmas if we are lucky.

And to compare xbox live with ps3s online system is a joke we all saw ps2 net. Sony are trying to copy what microsoft have done wholesale, yes you may be able to download whole movies and music wow! We can do that on the internet now.

I think the only comparison that needs to be made right now is that the ps3 is many months away and still in development and the 360 is in my lounge so im off to frag some people lucky enough to already be on next gen hardware and not drooling over ps3 specs.

Although not quite as powerful in terms of specs, the XBox 360 should play most games in similar graphics level of the PS3 and as an added bonus Micrsoft have added in a few new features as opposed to Sony who seem content to wheel out another console which is only different to the previous because the graphics are better. The multimedia aspects of this machine make it a very good choice for pretty much everyone and the focus on internet utilization makes it a much more interesting choice for updates and multiplay and general gaming.

A much more clever choice than the PS3. Not quite as interesting looking as the upcoming Nintendo Revolution but certainly a little more sensible.

I make my vote solely based on playing a friends console while overseas for a few hours and a few more hours of speculation as to what it could evolve into. Seemed like crazy fun at the time though!

Who cares if the Xbox 360 is less powerful than the ps3 or vicaversa!! just buy both like me. cant wait till march the 23rd!!!!! xbox 360 here i come!!!

You know what? I was thinking to myself about what I said earlier and have made a conlcusion.

I am going to buy the 360. I am not going to bother comparing it to the PS3 any longer.

The reason I and a lot of others should do the same is because, if you think about it this way, Microsoft is one of largest companies on Earth, do you really think that they would put out a console that is'nt good? They have enough money to practically buy out Sony.

As said earlier, how can the PS3 and 360 be compared when the PS3 hasn't even been made yet.

A certain person mentioned a website that would back up his/her statements. That site is nothing more than a forum, and my opinion of a forum is a thing where children post rumours.

Secondly, I'll back up Anonymous by saying that with all these specs the PS3 has, it won't be cheap. Now I'm not a poor guy, but even $700 dollars is a bit much for a console (however, I'll pay it anyway :P) and I wouldn't expect PS3 to be any cheaper than $1000. Too much to pay for such a ugly product.

Lastly, 360 has the look! PS3 does not. Sorry to compare them like that, but it had to be said.

Ok i dont really have much agenst Xbox 360/Xbox. All the games you see now for Xbox 360 are mostly ports from xbox/pc and been upgraded and really dont come near to what Xbox 360 should be able to do cause of MS actions making devs having less time to finsh there games for release off the Xbox 360.

Heres a list off a few things PS3 will have

• PS3 will have online service that goes beyond xbox live
• PS3 will be a DVR
• It will connect with psp
• There are alot of games being worked on for it right now in the US (alot more then what people know about)
• The final ps3 dev kit is alot faster than they thought
• The ps3 will have an itunes type service to let you download HI DEF movies, music, etc
• The Ps3 will take the media center functionality the 360 has even further
• PS3 will serve as a location free player for the psp, means you can watch the dvd's that you have in your ps3 on your psp (from anywhere in the world), or any other video files you have on your ps3.
• PSP will be able to send its files straight to the psp from anywhere in the world, and it can also control its DVR functionalities
• Firmware updates will add more functionality, much like with the psp
• The Blu Ray Player functionality doesnt cost as much as a stand alone player because the Cell and RSX can take care of alot of the stuff the ps3 will need to do to be able to read the disks

Xbox 360 is a great console but im going to wait and find out how much greater ps3 will really be :)

With the ability to download demos (console first), download music videos, watch High definition trailers, play music off your ipod when playing a game, which is standard and free with a premium console, this is definatly the best bang for buck.

sporting 3 × 3.2ghz ibm processors, compared to 1 × 733mhz intel processor in xbox1.

512 ram, compared to 64mb.

and a graphics card that has features that hasn't been matched by desktop graphics cards yet (unified shading).

and Xbox Live will be better than ever with the whole ‘unification’ of the dashboard / xbox live, and with the soon to be integration of msn messenger in xbox live, i can see my computer gathering dust.

I don't see the lack of a high definition DVD player standard a draw back, because bill gates said that games will have no solid format in the future and everything will be downloadable. So just wait till 500GB hard drives come out for the xbox360 :P

Lets go with his argument here. Yes, he's right that the PS3 may have better specs than the XBox 360 – but at what price? Do you seriously think the BluRay drive will come cheap? BluRay drives are selling already for $3000 NZ. Are you so naive as to think that the PS3 will even compare to the XBox 360 in terms of cost?

If you want true next gen, then why not invest in a $5000 PC. Next gen is already here! And besides, I thought a console is only as good as its games? Something to think about huh.

What was said below is very true. And to add to Sony's ‘eventual’ demise, the production costs are almost twice as high as Xbox 360s price is.

(360 is around $190 US and PS3 is around $240 US)

If you take a look at the 360 release in Japan, you will notice that Sony is somewhat breaking into a marketing sweat. As soon as Microsoft unveiled it's 360, Sony sort after desprite measures to release an ‘even slimmer’ PS2 for the JAP market and to add to this oddness it has become apparent that the new PS2 cannot play a lot of games without running problems and AND can only run SOME games anyway.

And besides, who really want's to wait ANOTHER year for next-gen gaming when, in a month, we can jump on the band wagon and laugh in Sony's sweaty face.

Lets face the facts here regarding XBox 360 vs PS3… While PS3 may sound like a graphical powerhouse, you have to realise that Sony has not really shown us anything concrete yet. Also when the PS3 does debut here (most likely 2007), the games for it aren't likely to be killer apps due to the shortened development time. In contrast XBox 360 would have had a full year for its games to “mature”, so the momentum will be with Microsoft.

The future of gaming is online play, and XBox Live is clearly paving the way forward. In addition the PS3 is going to cost a lot of money. I'd say probably just over $1000 – why? Because of the Bluray drive.

XBox 360 is here, and as any system is judged by its games, well how can you get much better than Dead Or Alive 4. And with the whole XBox Live thing going it just gets better. And HALO 3 coming this year… $700 sure is well worth the money!!

I would have to say something in defence of the 360, PS3 is only going to have one part of the specs, ONE part of the specs, that is greater in strength than the 360. This was qouted by an insider writing for a Playstation mag (now a free lance journo for a 360 mag). And if anyone has seen the pics of the ps3 and the controller, they would know that it IS hideous. Only a die-hard Sony fan would be fond of it. In my opinion I would say that Sony may have lost the plot when it comes to next-gen gaming, they are late in arrival, their console is ugly and just going for out and out horsepower aint going to cut when it comes to new-age gaming.

From what I've seen and heard from others this system sounds amazing and the announced games are awesome. About the specs, every major unbias review company has compared the stats such as IGN and Gamespot and found they are going to perform roughly the same. It is funny only the playstation sites claim floating point operation is all console needs :P. As said earlier, when the courier van pulls up im gonna be damn happy. The only thing that scares me is the fact there might not be enough to go around.

I'd like to address the concern about PS3 specs.

Before I get to that though, I think the most amazing thing about the 360, and it was one of the strengths of the original Xbox, is Xbox LIVE.

Microsoft has improved that already great software, and my favourite part of the new 360 system is how it will integrate with your IPOD or other MP3 device.

Throw in the wireless controller and you have a complete home entertainment center for DVD, Music and Games all operated from the comfort of your couch via the wireless controller.

The question I have about the PS3 is will Sony be bothered putting in a comparable software system, or will they rely on horsepower alone?

Will the PS3 be more powerful? At this stage, it seems irrelevant to me as the 360 is to be released first. More importantly it comes down to what games you want to play, and no doubt the PS3 will have the same franchise titles you love from PS2. Microsoft claims the 360 can do 1 Terraflop, while Sony claims the PS3 will do 2 Terraflops. What I noticed from the performance comparison charts shown at E3 however, is that a lot of this extra horsepower is in floating point performance which isn't necessarily essential for games afaik.

In closing, I think the 360 Dashboard and the LIVE software, plus the multimedia capabilities will give the 360 the edge, and the 360 is going to be here first.

the war is on guys the ps3 has got better specs but the difference is in he quality of the online gaming the way of online gaming is the future xbox live is the way to go ladys and gentleman to test your true skills all you need is an xbox live gold starer kit and a major credit card aka visa or mastercard. get the xbox 360guys and gals it is the only way to trust me on this i have many o friends in the us and i have only heard good things about it and there is no need to worry about the freezing snd crashing issues they are all gone. pluss the kool thing is that with the 360 there is voice and video chat so you can talk basicly face to face with people all over the world

Fortunatly, or UNfortunatly, depending on how you look at it, the Xbox 360 is not a dedicated gaming console. In fact, much focus has been shifted off the gaming to make it a “multimedia home entertainment system”. Hmm, nope, don't need consoles for that. Early Xbox 360s will be packed with DVD-ROMs, not HD-DVD-ROM, compared to PS3s Blu-Ray. Sorry Arucard, but the PS3 does have much greater technical specs than the Xbox 360. I'll wait for PS3.

I can't wait till I open the door to the nice little courier dude and slide my fingers over the ice cool box!! My only concern is that I hope the PS3 doesn't come out with better specs!! GAME ON!
