So, average apparel wool use of pounds per capita in 1965-69 was only slightly below the pounds in 1960-64. Sharp increases in penetration of man-made fibers caused the drop in carpet woo]. Cotton consumption per capita in the 1960's declined slowly. But rapid expansion occurred in man-made fiber use. Combined use of wool, cotton, and man-fibers on a per capita basis, advanced percent per year, as increasing consumer incomes prompted a steady rise in demand for textiles. Per capita use of all fibers rose from about 36 pounds in to nearly 51 pounds in 1968-69.
