Author Biography

Benjamin W. Wah received his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, CA, in 1979. He is currently the Franklin W. Woeltge Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Professor of the Coordinated Science Laboratory of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL. Previously, he had served on the faculty of Purdue University (1979-85), and as a Program Director at the National Science Foundation (1988-89).Dr. Wah has served as editor of a number of jounals: Knowledge and Information Systems (Honorary Editor-in-Chief: since 1998), IEEE Trans. on Knowledge and Data Engineering (Editor-in-Chief: 1993-96; Associate Editor-in-Chief: 1989-92), Information Science (Associate Editor: 1988-93, 2004-present; Senior Associate Editor: 1988-2003), Int'l Journal on Artificial Intelligence Tools (Editor: 1991-present), Neural Processing Letters (Editor: 1999-present), World Wide Web Journal (Editor: 2001-present), Chinese Journal on Electronics (Editor: 1996-present), IEEE Trans. on Software Engineering (Editor: 1985-88), Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing (Area Editor: 1985-95, Advisory Board: 1999-present), Journal of VLSI Signal Processing (Editor: 1994-present), Parallel Algorithms and Applications (Editor: 1997-2004), He has served in the IEEE Computer Society as Past President (2002), President (2001), President-Elect (2000), Elected First Vice President for Publications (1999), Elected Second Vice President for Publications (1998), Treasurer and Executive Committee member (1997), Elected Governing Board member (1989-93, 1996-98), Publications Board (1989-1996), Press Activities Board (1991-1996), Membership Activities Board (1993), Computer Society representative to IEEE Neural Network Council (1992-93, 1995-1998), Fellow Evaluation Committee (member: 1993-95, vice chair: 1996, chair 1997), Distinguished Visitor (1983-86, 1989-92).
