Author Biography

Naila Moreira was born in London to Brazilian parents, and grew up in New Hampshire. She studied at Amherst College and earned her doctorate at the University of Michigan. After continuing west to Seattle, working en route as a journalist and environmental consultant, she returned to her native New England. She now teaches at Smith College with a focus on science and nature writing. Her science journalism has appeared in Boston Globe, Seattle Times, Science News, and the Detroit Free Press, and she writes a monthly environment column for the Daily Hampshire Gazette. Her poems and nature essays have been published in The Cape Rock, The Naugatuck River Review, Pirene's Fountain, Silkworm, The Common Online, and other literary journals. Her first chapbook, Gorgeous Infidelities, was published in 2014 by Impossible Dream Editions as an art book in collaboration with internationally recognized photographer Paul Ickovic. She is currently writer in residence at the Forbes Library in Northampton, Massachusetts for 2015-2018.
