Description

Decision-making processes in water resources projects are often multi-criteria and multi-objective, meaning there are numerous factors that influence decisions and there are often several objectives that are sought. (An example would be balancing a precious water supply between agriculture use and drinking water.) The main concern in utilizing multi-criteria and multi-objectives decision-making techniques is that different techniques may result in different outputs; therefore, selecting an appropriate technique is crucial. This book will describe fundamental concepts, technical and economic aspects, and practical real-world applications for different decision-making techniques.

Author Biography:

Hamed Sabzi has given several conference presentations on the optimization of decision-making for water resource projects. He’s now working on the optimal management of multi-objective watersheds. His research focuses on developing dynamic systems to monitor and control the stochastic floods in the Mesilla Valley of southern New Mexico. Additionally, he is working on developing a multi-criteria and multi-objective decision-making framework for flood controlling systems to serve water policy makers in the state of New Mexico. Dr. King is the John Clark Distinguished Professor and Associate Department Head in the Civil Engineering Department at New Mexico State University. He is also Principal Engineer for King Engineering & Associates, a New Mexico–based consulting firm. He specializes in water resources, agriculture, and engineering education. Dr. King has worked with government agencies, irrigators, municipalities, Native American tribes, and environmental groups to develop new and innovative approaches to water management and education. He has authored many publications in the areas of stream flow forecasting using statistical models, optimal watershed management, decision support systems, evapotranspiration measurement, neural networks, evolutionary algorithms, surface and groundwater modeling, and innovative teaching methods. Dr. King serves on a number of public and private boards, editorial boards, and peer review panels.
