A community play for a large cast and a wide audience, Washboard Blues tells the story of ordinary women in the 1950s. In a municipal wash-house a group of friends meet and talk their way through the weekly laundry. Love, laughter, lies; deprivations, delights and dreams. Lily is searching for stardom as a clubland singer, but rock and roll is on its way in - is it too late to get her big break?
Author Biography
Do Shaw lives in Berwick-upon-Tweed. Most of her work as a director has been in community theatre and education. Her plays were written for large groups of non-professional actors, with a predominantly female cast.
