Description

Documents a type of folk art in West Bengal, India, that combines traditional narrative scroll painting with singing and storytelling. Depicts the life and work of modern day artists who have reinvigorated their folk art by depicting contemporary social issues.

Author Biography:

Frank J. Korom teaches religion and anthropology at Boston University and was a research associate of the Museum of International Folk Art, where he served as curator of Asian and Middle Eastern collections from 1993 to 1998. He is also a 2006 recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship.
