Description

Victorianne Phoenix loves Princess Kristy! She has the entire collection of books, movies and dolls. One day. Victorianne asks her mom if she could make her hair look like Kristy's. Simple enough, or so she thinks...when Mommy attempts to recreate the Princess Kristy look the results are unexpected. Disappointed and confused, Victorianne wonders if this means she'll never look like or be a real princess. Well, Mommy knows a thing or two about princesses - from far away lands and kingdoms.

Author Biography:

Kinya Shakur Travis is a writer, actress/producer, wife and mother of two. Kinya believes that education is part experience, part nurture, and like past civilizations recognizes "Know Thyself" as a common truth. "Self-knowledge leads to Confidence - the true foundation for a child's education." Growing up, learning to love and accept herself was a challenge as she felt inundated with images of pop culture that did not always reflect her own. However, looking back Kinya believes that the work her parents consistently put in at home, introducing her to African and African-American history in books, art, and toys helped to build her self-worth. Today, schooling her own children about their heritage and encouraging respect and understanding of other cultures took priority. Kinya and her husband witnessed the positive effects of their acts through their children and the relationships they've built with those of other races. This eventually motivated Kinya to assist other children and their families through entertaining books from a cultural perspective. As an actress, Kinya is accustomed to studying individuals then physically and mentally bringing them to life. Creative writing allows Kinya to express the mental part of her craft and share what she's most passionate about today - her children. Victorianne Phoenix is a character created from a string of episodes of her daughter's journey in understanding her own uniqueness. Kinya plans to continue to manifest these experiences through Victorianne's eyes, adopting other characters and their experiences, and inspiring our youth.
