This issue provides information and insight to help institutions develop targeted recruitment efforts to fill midlevel administration positions and enlighten individuals about career possibilities in midlevel administration. The contributors are midlevel administrators in ten different areas who offer insider information vital to understanding what is needed to succeed in ths field. They discuss a range of topics, including the role played by their unit in the institution, the variety of positions available and chances for mobility, the necessary education and skills, and the major professional challenges they face. This is the 111th issue of the quarterly journal New Directions for Higher Education.
