"Nostalgic trip down memory lane - brilliant!"
5 stars"

My most vivid childhood memories of this series were of Lt. Paul Foster imprisoned in an alien space suit, drowning in green liquid, and those purple nylon wigs worn by the women on Moonbase. The green liquid was the stuff of nightmares, while those wigs resulted in an unfortunate hairdressing experience.

I have thoroughly enjoyed (and cringed on the odd occasion) re-watching the whole series again in crystal clear quality. The digital restoration is amazing – I wish more shows would follow their lead. The ‘science’, like the costumes, is not to be taken seriously, but the model work is still outstanding today.

It was excellent science fiction for its time, with interesting storylines, and it is still entertaining and watchable in 2009, although relatively slow-paced compared to present-day offerings. The added extras are a treat, and all in all a ‘must have’ for fans of Gerry Anderson's shows.

"Fun watch, some laughs, and that theme!"

I've enjoyed this trip down memory lane! The story lines are varied and interesting (mostly) and the special effects – all things considered – are fine. Ok, so you have to look past the 1960s take on what fashions would be like in 1980, plus the excruciating male attitudes to women, and the constant smoking, but it's still a fun watch. And the series is worth it just to hear that theme song again!

"Still good"

Ok, so it's a bit dated (and laughably sexist) now, but it's still good fun. I was surprised to find that the storylines are better than I expected. This is one series I'd love to see someone remake with modern SFX. Well worth the cost.

Gerry Andersons best, before being corrupted and Americanised into making Space 1999. Expertly Digitally remastered, though personally I would have liked to have seen some of the special effects tweaked a little, however there is no escaping the brilliance of the man, considering the time in which it was made.

"Not a monotonous shoot-them-down show."

More psychological drama than action. Attacks come in many strange forms keeping the show interesting. Nice mesh of live action and model shots. The included feature movie Invasion UFO is just a hash together of some of the episodes. I liked the show when I was a kid and still do.

"Still a great watch."

The UFO's are still amazing considering the age of the TV series.

"Incredibly well restored"

I was truly amazed at how well they've restored the original footage for these disks.

Yes, you either love or hate the series and some episodes are as awful as others are brilliant but if you're a sci-fi or nostalgia buff then it's a must-have.

Some of the extras are nice too. You won't believe how Ed Bishop's voice changed between the time he played Straker and the time he did a voice-over for the Sub Smash episode.

Sadly many of the cast (including Ed Bishop) are now dead, which just goes to show how old this series really is. Apparently they were filming on a sound-stage next to Stanley Kubrick's 2001.

Take a trip down memory lane to the 70's. If you look past the slow pace of acting the plastic settings, you will see a great TV series for it's time. I have thoroughly enjoy watching the first episodes of the series, as I never got to see them when it first come on TV, so was good to know how it all begun, I now look forward to watching the rest of them.

"UFO was well ahead of it's time"

I had long and distant memories of UFO, and never thought I would see it again. Luckily, after finding bits and pieces of it recently on YouTube, I thought, well, there must have been a re-release of it on video at some stage. I have to say I was surprised and delighted to find this complete boxed set on DVD, and clearer than I could have imagined. UFO was ahead of it's time and more, dare I say it, down to Earth than the likes of Star Trek and better construced than Dr Who. Mind you, I was in standard four at the time (11 years of age,) so it was like looking in to the future, (1970 looking in to 1980. Forty years ago, boy how time flies.)

"Space escapades from the 70s"

Unfortuntely the acting is only slightly less wooden than the puppets of the thunderbirds and captain Scarlet. Having said that it's an interesting look back and some of the storys are interesting.

"A must for any Gerry Anderson fan!"

An excellent TV serial which should be in your futuristic Sci Fi collection. The filming techniques and early electronic theory together with the visual technology makes it all too attractive. As always, Gerry Anderson and film crew have come up with intriguing human interactive plots. A well presented DVD package and highly recommend this set.

"Great series from a man ahead of his time Gerry Anderson"

Takes me back to the early seventies when life seamed so simple. It is great to see what I believe one of a classic series of shows from that era. I'm a fan of all of Gerry Andersons shows and intend on collecting the lot over time. Its hard case to see people smoking on moon base, bit different than what you would expect. Highly recommend this DVD to any SciFi fan (and will really appeal to those like me knocking 50)
