It was beside his ho/ze, to be able to add something from his manuscri/u's which had never before been flublished. Nu this, it was thought, might be com/zrised within the limits of eight octa vo volumes, of five hundred hages or u/zwards each. This cal culation was not founded u/zon a minute estimate, nor had it the sanction of ex/zerience. It was general; and a/zfiears, as we have firogressed in the work, to be inadequate. It would re quire at least another volume to fulfil the original design; not withstanding the ty/ze is smaller than that which at first it was jzrojzosed to use. For this error in estimate, the editor is will ing as much blame should attach to him as it deserves. Zit the 'same time he is consoled with the reflection, that, as no injury was designed, none actually accrues, to his subscribers. The volumes, as they are given, are really worth more, by considerable, than the Proposals warranted them to ex/zect.
