One of the largest of such poles is a flagstaff standing in Kew Gardens, which is over two hundred feet high, and consists of one piece. In lawn-tennis, the posts supporting the net are called the poles. Poling (pol' ing, is the act of using a pole, especially for propelling a punt, barge, or raft.
