The effect of this 7 - percent decrease was slightly Offset by increased yields per acre an average Of lu2.2 bushels in 19ul compared with bushels in 19h0 but the total production of 281 million bushels of late potatoes was 5 percent less than in 19uo. During the first half of 19u0, prices were relatively low as a result of large supplies of stored late potatoes and a large crop of early potatoes. After the l9ul late potatoes came on the market, however, prices began rising because of the smaller crop and the general increase in all food prices resulting from rising consumer purchasing power.
