Author Biography:

Madhav Gadgil is professor of Ecological Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. Ramachandra Guha is one of India's best-known historians, a full-time author and columnist. He has taught at Yale University, the Indian Institute of Science and the University of California at Berkeley, where he was the Indo-American Community Chair Professor in 1997 and 1998.
