Years ago, a wise man shared with me a story about making a difference. He told me about a big storm and abnormally warm currents that swept along the Florida coastline. Thousands and thousands of starfish washed up on the shore and were dying on the sand. When the storm had calmed and the sun came out the following day, a boy was walking along the shore, picking up starfish and throwing them back into the ocean, giving the starfish a chance at life again. A man walking along the beach noticed the boy and asked, "Why are you throwing those starfish back into the ocean? There are too many; it won't make any difference." The boy looked at the man, reached to pick up a starfish and threw it back into the ocean. The boy said, "Made a difference to that one." While I was enduring my chemotherapy and radiation treatments, I met many other people who were experiencing the same treatments that I was going through. Many of them were driving a lot farther than I was. Many of them could not afford to stay the night in a hotel. One woman I met, Maria, was driving daily from Moreno Valley, some 200 miles one way in her 1991 Toyota Camry. She could barely afford gas to get her there and back every day.
The proceeds of this book will be used to help others going through cancer treatments. When I can give money to people like Maria, that will make a huge difference. If I were to give the proceeds of this book to a cancer organization, the proceeds would be diluted over so many people in need that the money couldn't possibly help anyone specifically.
So, the proceeds of this book will be used to make a difference in individual cancer patients' lives. I will seek the guidance of the doctors and the staff who helped me survive to recommend people who could most use the help to "make a difference in that one's life."
Author Biography:
James Perry is President and CEO of Alliance Portfolio & managing member of Alliance Mortgage Fund and Alliance Fund Management, LLC. Mr. Perry has specialized in placing private investor and pension fund capital into well secured trust deed investments since 1989. He formed his first mortgage banking company in 1993, then co-founded The Alliance Portfolio in 1996. In 2007, Mr. Perry assumed complete ownership of The Alliance Portfolio and subsequently founded Alliance Portfolio Private Equity Finance in October of 2008. Mr. Perry has originated, funded, closed, and serviced over $700 million in private money trust deed investments. With over 30-year experience, Mr. Perry has successfully navigated his and his clients' way through several real estate cycles including the major market shifts in the early 1990's and 2007-2009. Mr. Perry is an active member of the California Mortgage Association, where he is a frequent speaker teaching classes on "Raising Investment Capital" "Customers for Life - Effective Marketing Strategies" and "Marketing and Business Development". Mr. Perry is a sponsor of the Orange County Bar Association, Orange County Apartment Owners Association, Orange County Financial Planners Association and South Orange County Board of Realtors. Mr. Perry is the Author of "The University of Cancer, No one Applies, The curriculum can kill you, The education priceless" along with "The Financial Planning Uses of Private Equity Real Estate Investments" and has taught continuing education classes for the Orange County Financial Planners Association. Mr. Perry resides in San Clemente, California with his Bride of 30 years. Mr. Perry is very committed to personal growth and actively works with a Business coach, Yoga & recovery coach, Boxing Coach, Guitar coach and Spiritual mentor. He enjoys traveling to Italy and other beautiful spots in the world, Golf and studying Business, Leadership and Spiritual literatures.
