Author Biography
Charles Causley was born in Launceston, Cornwall in 1917, and aside from his naval service in World War II, lived there all his life. He left school at 15 and worked in a builder's office, playing the piano in a dance-band in the evenings, before serving during World War II in the Royal Navy. He then returned to Launceston, and worked until his retirement as a primary school teacher, publishing poetry, stories, hymns and plays and receiving many honours. Loved by his fellow poets, Charles Causley loved and understood children, and knew what they liked instinctively.
