Excerpt from The Restitution of All Things: An Essay on the Important Purpose of the Universal Redeemer's Destination It will readily occur to any one in reading the following difcourfe, that it is not intended as a regular treatife, in Which any fubjec't is tho roughly difcufled; but only as a Sketch or Efiay, in which fome hints are thrown out, fome thoughts fiarted, which, to the Writer at leafi, feemed to be of importance, and to have efcaped the norice of mof't of thofe who have treated of the Divine Interpofition for the Re demption and Refioration of the World. The Author had indeed at firf't formed the defign of a much more extenfive undertaking; and in tended to have made an attempt to trace the Adminif'tration of the Great Defign of Omnipo tence in this Interpofition, in the vefiiges of an Univerfal Providence; and to have efiimated the effeets of this Adminifiration in the different ages and nations of the world. But this he found himfelf unable to accompliflr from his fituation amidf't the tumults and alarms of war.
