Description

Excerpt from The Ober-Ammergau Passion Play: With Some Introductory Remarks on the Origin and Development Backs. The music and the words are the same, except that the Sanhedrim scenes will be shortened. The Dramatis Personw, as will be seen by a com parison of the lists, are much the same as in 1880. The handsome form of Diemen gives place this year as Choragus to Jakob Rutz, a very competent substitute. Zwink is too old for John, and is to take the part of Judas Peter Rendl, son of Thomas Rendl (the Pilate of 1870 taking his place as John. Diemer, the late Choragus, is to be Herod. Rosa Lang, the new Maria, is the burgo master's daughter. Plunger, who played the part of Pilate with so much dignity on the last three occasions, is dead. Lechner, whose fine acting of the part of Judas was so deservedly admired, is greatly disappointed at being passed over this year; but a severe attack of erysipelas in the head has greatly weakened and somewhat dis figured him, and the committee were probably right in thinking that the effort would have been too much for him.
