Miranda couldn't have told anyone when the knowing began. It was an essence as familiar as her own face in the mirror, or the colour of her eyes. She had always known too much, felt too much. She longed to be like the other girls with their carefree school yard chatter. The wrong thing always seemed to be ready to fall from her lips. It was hard to remember to hide things she knew. When her new friend Rosa is badly hurt in a bus accident while sitting next to her on the school bus, Miranda feels helpless. She hadn't known. She should have known. Nothing made sense.
