Whenever any Perfon is chofen from the reft of the Society, and raifed to Kingfhip upon a forego ing and previous Contraet with the Community, he'becomes upon the very accepting it_ bound abfolutely, and without Referve, to govern them according to the Terms and Meafures which they have agreed and itipulated, and to rule them by the Tenor of the Laws, unto which they have circumfcribed and confined him. As Great Britain has been the inoft provident and Careful of all Countries in referving to it felf, upon the Brit Inilitution of, and Submi ion to Regal Government, all fuch Rights, Privileges, Liberties, as were neceffary to render it either renown'd, and ho; nourable abroad, or fafe, happy, and profperous at home; {0 it bath, with a Courage and Magnanimity leculiar unto it, main tair'i'd itsprivileges, and Liberties thro' along Series of Ages, and either re-affur'd and fecur'd them by new and fuperadded Laws, when there were Endeavours to undermine and fupplant them, or elfe hath vindicated them with a generous Courage, even to the Depofition and Abdication of treacherous, ufurping and tyran nical Princes, when more gentle, mild and Senatorian Methods were found weak and inefi'eetual to cover and proteet them to themfelves, and to convey and tr-anfmit them to fuch as were to come after.
