Surprisingly enjoyable watch. The picture is amazingly clear. I never saw it at the flicks, so didn't have a chance to review it on a meh basis like most people I've spoken too.
Either or. A worthy watch.

Well paced story, clear picture and well put together.
I enjoyed watching this in my own home on my 3d tv much more than at the movies, which surprised me as in general I prefer animated 3d movies at home over live action, maybe it's something to do with the fact that this was originally made in 3d and some of the movies I've watched are not. Anyway all up, definitely worth having in your blu ray collection – a great story to go back to again and again. And obviously being produced and directed in NZ plus all the NZ scenery it's a buzz to try and identify places and simply realx totally into our stunning scenery.
I loved this movie. I read the book and Seen Hobbiton. To watch a movie and having visit the movie set. Brilliant to see a scene and know that I stood where the actors filmed fantastic. Bring on the rest of the movies.
