Today however, there exists a larger type of Guernsey cow that is proficient as an economical milk and butter producer. Because of this fact the Guernsey is sometimes referred to as the poor man's cow. In respect to butter fat production they run close to the Jerseys and since the introduction of State laws in reference to fat content of milk; they have found their way into the herds of staunch black and white breeders.
