The present edition differs from the preceding in the following particulars (1) many verbal improvements have been made throughout the volume (2) a chapter on the English Language has been added (3) in response to re quests from teachers, the exercises have been more than doubled in quantity. They are retained at the end of the book, for two reasons they make the text more compact; and they may be used in the class-room without allowing the student to make too frequent reference to the text.
