By most writers on diseases of the skin, they have been de scribed without reference to their situation, being classed with eruptions occurring on other parts of the body. This I believe to be a principal reason for the obscurity which still envelopes this class of skin diseases; for the peculiar anatomical structure of the scalp, and the presence of the hair, cause a marked dissimilarity in the appearance, and a still greater difference in the treatment, of the same class and order of eruptions (so far as regards any artifi cial arrangement of diseases of the skin), seated here and on other portions of the cuticular surface.
