Guyot-desherbiers was chief of the legisla tive division of the Ministry of Justice, during the Directorate, a member of the council of the Five Hundred, and of that of the Elders. He was a man of simple habits, of a conservative nature, singularly disinterested, of charming wit and never-failing gaiety. After the eighteenth of Brumaire, he lived in retirement. He died in 1828, when over eighty-four years of age. His son and his two daughters inherited his wit and his gaiety.
