With certain exceptions (chiefly nerve-cells and voluntary muscle-cells) it may be said that the cells of every organ and tissue of the body have the power to reproduce themselves by a process of simple division, but special attention should be given to the fact that the offspring is always of the same type or species 'as its parent cell.
