Other paintings, earlier than the fourth century, are not of religious subjects at all, and cannot therefore be called Christian they are merely ornamental and nothing more. Of mosaics of the sixth century we have so few remaining in Rome, that we must go to Ravenna to see the style of drawing of that period.
