Description

Excerpt from The American Journal of Physiology, 1900, Vol. 3 In experiments which have already been reported 3 an opposite result has been obtained. Stimulation of the hypogastric nerves with moderately strong induced currents frequently caused a con tracted bladder to relax. The usual effect of stimulation with the bladder in a normal condition is exactly that which has been described for ir, - a short, and comparatively quick contraction, followed immediately by an apparently active dilation or relaxation of the bladder wall. And the amount of the relaxation is normally much in excess of the amount of the contraction. In the accompanying figure (fig. I) are shown two curves which were Obtained by fixing the lower end of the bladder by means of a spike clamped to the same iron standard which carried the lever.
