Public Health and marine-hospital Service is at present organized not only changed the name of the Service but also served to broaden the scope and increase the efficiency of its work by making statutory provisions for a number of the activities which previous to the enactment of this law, had only the authority of regulation. In addition to the marine-hospital Service and the supervision of the Quarantine Service throughout the United States and its dependencies, this Service now provides for the systematic study of endemic and epidemic diseases and the development of methods for controlling the same, and its organization is based on such fundamentally broad lines that it can, and no doubt will be developed into a public health service second to that of no other nation.
